The Reach of Research
Architecture as a discipline and as a profession is relevant to a wide community, has many interdisciplinary connections, and tries to cross traditionally exclusive boundaries. Some architectural research creates new knowledge for an increasingly smaller audience of specialists. Other research finds a larger audience of people outside of architecture. Methodologies of conducting architectural research and analyses are included in the interdisciplinary nature of the profession. Methodologies range from knowledge gathered as a byproduct of the design process, to established scientific, historical, and statistical methods. Different types of knowledge and research methodologies are necessary for the progress of architecture and can compliment each other. The conference considers various types of research methods and knowledge in reference to the boundaries of architecture. The scope of papers is open, with suggested areas listed below, but all papers should address as part of the presentation, the methodology of research that was followed by the author(s).
