CERES Profile:

The Center for Energy Research/Education/Service (CERES) at Ball State University is a university-level interdisciplinary academic unit focused on issues related to energy and resource use. A brief description is provided below, but detailed information on all programs, activities, staff and affiliated faculty can be found on the CERES website: www.bsu.edu/provost/ceres/ceres

Research

Faculty associated with CERES have engaged in research ranging in scale from community planning to materials technology. CERES research emphasizes the interrelation of disciplines in energy-related analysis, performance evaluation and decision-making. CERES contracts with public agencies, businesses, and private foundations to develop new technologies and/or application of proven technologies.

Education

Interdisciplinary educational activities are coordinated through CERES each year. In addition to regularly scheduled courses taught as part of departmental curricula, campus-wide energy education programs and continuing education classes are offered as well.

Service

Through its on-site workshops, energy awareness programs and public lectures by staff and affiliated faculty, CERES attempts to keep its constituents abreast of developments in the energy area. The frequent dissemination of reference literature and the published work of faculty provide an additional means of dissemination and contact. As a complement to this, the CERES guest lecture program brings leaders in energy research and education to Indiana to share their knowledge, offer insight and apply their expertise.

The Facility

CERES is housed in a 15,000 square foot laboratory and classroom building located in the center of campus. Several full-scale demonstrations of passive and active solar technologies were constructed as an integral part of the fabric of the building. Partial heating and cooling of the facility is provided by these passive and active systems.
